Thomas Tayeri, M.D.

Thomas Tayeri, M.D.Since he began practicing in Palo Alto in 1995, Thomas Tayeri, M.D., has earned a reputation as the foremost private practice glaucoma specialist in the Peninsula and South Bay. Over two hundred referring eye specialists trust Tayeri with the care of their patients with glaucoma and anterior segment disease.

Dr. Tayeri graduated from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) medical school in 1990. After completing his ophthalmology training at Stanford, he received subspecialty training in glaucoma at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. Dr. Tayeri is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Glaucoma Society, and past president of the Peninsula Eye Society. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honors society.

Dr. Tayeri has been active in physician education, and has an appointment as Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Stanford. As a Surgical Eye Expeditions International affiliate, he has brought his expertise to the developing world by helping train local surgeons and donating his time to perform numerous sight-restoring operations on patients with no other access to medical care.

 

Jessica Chen, M.D.

Joanna Sarracino, M.D.Jessica Chen, M.D., joined the Palo Alto Eye Group in 2012. Dr. Chen attended the University of California, Berkeley where she received her bachelors degree in Integrative Biology. She received her medical doctorate from the University of California, Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine, where she was inducted into the medical honors society, Alpha Omega Alpha. Then she moved to Seattle to complete her residency training in Ophthalmology at the University of Washington. For subspecialty training in glaucoma, she did a clinical fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, which has been ranked as the number one Ophthalmology program in the nation by U.S. News and World Report for the past eleven consecutive years. Dr. Chen is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Chen volunteers at the San Francisco City Impact Health and Wellness Center which provides free eye care to the poor and underserved. Fluent in medical Spanish, she has also been in involved in international medical missions to Mexico and Ecuador. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Glaucoma Society.

 

Robert Kule, MD.
Ophthalmologist

Robert Kule, MD.Robert Kule, M.D., joined the Palo Alto Eye Group in 2015. Dr. Kule received his bachelors degree in Materials Science and Engineering at Columbia University in New York, and was awarded membership into the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. He received his medical doctorate at New York University, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society. Dr. Kule then completed his residency training in Ophthalmology at the prestigious Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles. He then pursued further subspecialty training in glaucoma at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford University.

Actively involved in medical student and resident education, Dr. Kule holds an appointment as Adjunct Clinical Faculty at Stanford.

 



Debra Cheung, O.D.

Debra Cheung, O.D.Debra Cheung, O.D., joined the Palo Alto Eye Group in 2009. Dr. Cheung received her optometry doctorate degree with honors from the School of Optometry at the University of California, Berkeley. She is board certified by the National Board of Optometry and the American Board of Optometry. She specializes in soft and rigid multifocal contact lens fitting and is certified for orthokeratology using CRT lenses for myopia control. She is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Santa Clara Optometric Society.

Dr. Cheung speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese. She enjoys hiking at Foothills Park and loves playing strategic board games with her husband and friends.

 



Lisa O'Connor, O.D.

Lisa O'Connor, O.D.Lisa O'Connor, O.D., joined the Palo Alto Eye Group in 2016. Dr. O'Connor attended the University of California, Santa Barbara where she received her bachelor's degree in Microbiology. She received her doctorate from the Southern California College of Optometry, graduating with honors, and went on to complete a residency in ocular disease and contact lens at the University of California at Berkeley School of Optometry. She is an active member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honors Society, the American Optometric Association, and the San Mateo Optometric Society.

In 2015 Dr. O'Connor was voted best eye doctor in San Francisco by Bay Area Parent readers. She is glaucoma certified and performs comprehensive eye examinations, which include a refraction (determination of glasses prescription), evaluation of binocular vision function, and screening for glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, CMV retinitis, and many other eye conditions. She also provides a comprehensive fitting of contact lenses including the most advanced soft and gas-permeable astigmatic, bifocal, tinted, and custom-designed lenses available.
